Pegboard is a small neighborhood project in its early test. It keeps only what it needs to lend tools between neighbors. Nothing is sold, and there are no ads or trackers.
What we store
- Your phone number, to log you in with a text code.
- Your name as you typed it, like “Dana R.”
- Your home pin, the spot you placed on the map.
- Your email address, only if you chose email for notifications.
- Your tools and any notes you wrote for borrowers.
- Loans: who asked for what and when, the message sent with a request, pickups and returns, and any thumbs up or down afterwards.
- Waivers you accepted, with the exact wording and the time.
- Tools you ask for when a search finds nothing, so we know who to invite next.
- Notifications we sent you, and feedback you send us.
Who sees what
- Everyone logged in sees your name and your tools, placed away from your real home and shown only as a rough distance from their own, like “1–2 miles”. How far away depends on how many homes are around you: a few hundred meters in a neighborhood, up to a few miles in the country, so the spot could be any of about 30 homes.
- Once you approve a loan, that borrower sees your phone number and your exact home so they can pick up. You see their phone number too.
- Nobody else sees your phone, email, or exact home. Thumbs up or down and who you trust are never shown to anyone.
- The people running Pegboard can see everything in the database, to keep it working. Right now that’s one neighbor.
Text messages
If you choose text messages on your profile, your mobile number is used only to send you notifications about your own loans: a neighbor asking to borrow your tool, an answer to a request you made, and a reminder when a tool is due back.
- We never sell or share your mobile number or your text-message opt-in with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. No mobile information is shared with anyone for marketing.
- Message frequency varies with your own lending and borrowing. Most members get a few messages a month.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to cancel at any time, or HELP for help. You can also change or switch off notifications on your profile page.

Leaving
Want your tools, loans, and details removed? Tell us and it’s done within a few days. Daily backups roll off after two weeks. Monthly backups are kept longer and aren’t edited; they’re only opened to recover from a breakdown, and if that ever happens we remove you again.
